Church Street & Turn Lane | ||
In 1947 Culmark, the shaving brush company, opened a factory in new Turn Lane on part of the site previously occupied by the Carmelite convent. Culmark’s shaving brushes were of the highest quality and would last a lifetime. They were regularly given as a 21st birthday present. Culmark ceased trading in 1975. The site was subsequently used as a printing works until 2003. There are now plans to build housing on the site. This photograph shows the first part of the production line during which the bristles of each brush are set.
